DetailsGeneral Statement of Duties
Performs a variety of inspections tasks to ensure compliance of County buildings and property with proper codes and ordinances including state building codes in four trade areas. Serves as supervisor and technical resource for staff and oversees plan review and permitting.
Duties and Responsibilities
Uses level III certifications to inspect all levels of residential, commercial and industrial new construction and renovations for compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes. Communicates with citizens concerning code and ordinance requirements; deals with complaints; advises contractors in interpreting and applying code regulations.
Maintains records of inspections and prepares necessary reports.
Enforces receives complaints and investigates problems. Notifies responsible parties of defects and re-inspects to determine if corrective actions have been taken; issues stop work orders. Conducts site plan reviews and recommends revisions to projects to assure compliance with codes and ordinances; attends and participates in meetings with builders and contractors to advise them of code changes and violations at construction sites. In cases of severe weather works with emergency management to locate and check downed power lines, inspect and evaluate buildings to detect hazardous and dangerous conditions and evaluate for safe occupation. Supervises building inspections staff and supervises permitting process and office staff. Reviews and studies building code regulations to stay informed of changes in codes and ordinances; complete necessary classes to attain inspection certifications. Performs related duties as required.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.
Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently; and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform visual inspections, do extensive reading, review maps and plans, and to operate a computer and office machines.
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and extensive experience in the building construction industry and enforcement of code standards; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirement
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
State certification in electrical, building, mechanical and plumbing codes at the III level within the time frame specified and required by County management. Any loss of certification may result in an appropriate reduction in pay and classification or may affect employment status, at the discretion of the County Manager.

Performs routine unskilled and semi-skilled manual work in the custodial care of buildings. .
Duties and Responsibilities
Cleans buildings; vacuums, mops, sweeps, dusts furniture, cleans restrooms and restroom fixtures; cleans windows, shampoos carpet, buffs and waxes floors, strips wax.
Stocks restrooms with paper products such as towels and tissue; stocks soap. Cleans window blinds and window sills; cleans base boards. Replaces light bulbs. Performs a variety of maintenance tasks such as sweeping sidewalks, parking lots and porches; locks and unlocks buildings, sets up rooms for meetings and moves furniture; and hauling off trash. Defrosts refrigerators; cleans windows and walls; cleans coffee pots; washes out trash containers; cleans dishes. Operates carpet cleaners, buffers, dusters, rakes, vacuum machines and other cleaning equipment. Operates and cleans county vehicles. Raises and lowers flags. Maintains ready stock of janitorial supplies. Maintains simple records of work activities. May supervise community service workers. Performs related tasks as required.
Physical Requirements

Performs a variety of responsible administrative support and customer service duties at a journey level requiring knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, procedures and services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Answers telephone and/or greets visitors; directs calls or visitors and gives program and department information based on type of request; selects appropriate materials to answer questions and provide assistance. Assists the public with understanding departmental and County policies and procedures or laws as they relate to the services being provided by the unit; explains reasons for denying a request; refers to others who may make exceptions; takes complaints, may refer to others for resolution. Reviews and verifies records and reports to ensure that information is provided and correct. Prepares a wide variety of documents including correspondence, memoranda, etc. from hand written notes or verbal instructions; proofreads materials for typographical or spelling errors; copies, collates, binds, faxes, emails, and distributes information in various formats. Compiles information using standardized forms and standing instructions; may prepare forms and formats for more efficient operations.
